James,

I had the same problem when I first started using the Import function in
7.6. Here is how I finally got it to work.

1) Prior to starting the import, I checked the number of rows from
the Excel files I was going to import.

2) I go through all the steps in the import wizard, including
setting up the columns of A - (however many columns you need). Since I
do not have a header in the file, I just use the pre-assigned A -Z
letters.

3) I then go to the specification page and click the Save button.
It sometimes is touchy when naming the file. Remember it will save the
spec file in your RBASE directory.

4) Then you go ahead and do the import.

One thing I have found is that I manually format the excel columns that
are numbers. I also format any text columns that have numbers. Mine
have imported as the date if I didn't. Sometimes you have to play with
it to get the import right. If you have to repeat because the import
does not work, you will have to save the spec file each time until it is
right.

Jim

Subject: [RBASE-L] - importing through gateway from Excel worksheet

I am importing an Excel worksheet via Gateway. How do I create a
specification file as I define field names and sizes?
I can't seem to activate the specification file.
