But the 79 bucks for Parallels is cheap for what you get! I used VM too and I did not have the same experience as with Parallels! (virtualbox.org) I'm still getting initiated but have run R:Base 7.6 and a movie editing package in a virtual XP machine running on OSX. The software runs fine although I need to deal with some I/O in the editing package. A new version of VirtualBox was released 4/8 might resolve that (I haven't downloaded it yet). Bottom line: so far so good with limited experience. iMac 20" monitor is reeeeeally nice.
