We had a neighbor and good friend from England, who threw a party every year on the 4th of July. We could see the downtown fireworks from her house. (She lives in England again now, and my wife is visiting her at the moment in Winchester, so it's good to know today is a holiday there, too!) At her "4th of July" parties, she flew a big Union Jack from her front porch, and she called the day "British Thanksgiving."
