Thanks for your suggestion, Jim. I've only created a View once a very long time ago in old RBase 4.5 - remember having lots of problems afterwards. Could easily have been my fault, but is there any chance there is a way to do this using existing table, report form? If not, would I be able to keep original report and point to the View instead, or would I need to recreate from scratch?

Have second Category table with 3 columns. One of the Category columns is also included in main data table, so can easily sort by that. Now, however, I would like to sort a report based on a Second Column in Category table without having to add that column to my main data table.
