Jim: This is the weirdest file.... If I open it in Word (2007) it brings up a file conversion where I can see the text, and it suggests "Unicode" which is correct. Then it opens fine.
At the DOS prompt you can "type sms.xls" and you see it. Looks like tab-delimited data. If you bring it into Excel, it will import it as a tab-delimited file. However, if I rename the file to sms.tab (just to remove the .xls confusion) and I use gateway to import it as a tab delimited, new table, I get a table with 2 columns (it has 8) with just one charcter of garbage in each column. I can have the user bring it up in Excel and re-save it as a CSV file and it'll work. I was just hoping to save them this extra step. Karen > Have you tried to open it in Microsoft Word.
