Jan,
The symptom you describe appears similar to what I would expect to see with a
server that runs security software such as dfix or DenyHosts. Basically, these
security softwares are designed to block out an IP address that tries
dictionary attack on a server. Search on "dfix" or "DenyHosts" will give you a
better idea on what they do.
If your problem is due to the security software, one solution is to have your
email host to "whitelist" your IP address.

Doug,
The ISP has a policy of no more than I believe 150 emails an hour, and when I
try to configure r:mail to go thru the ISP, it will stop after that many
emails. It was recommended that we instead go thru a mail server, which is how
it was originally set up, so it was changed back, and I am still having the
same problem. Is the ISP involved even when we are using a hosting service? I
did contact the host as well and was told there is no change in policy on their
end. I was also surprised that I couldn't get r:mail to connect using port 465
instead of port 25. I had hoped that might solve the problem. As you can see
from the log, I am not getting any kind of error message from the server, it
simply hangs for about 3 minutes then disconnects without sending the email.

Jan, did your ISP change email policy, did you switch to another carrier or
are you emailing through a hosting service that may have changed policy?
My carrier at the office has no restrictions but a hosting site for a
client has a limit of 50 emails every 5 minutes.

Happy Friday everyone!
I have been pulling out my hair trying to figure this one out! I have
had an rmail (2.6) application running smoothly for well over 2 years now.
Then suddenly, it stops working! Now the best case is I can get out 150-200
emails before it stops working, regardless of whether I send them out
individually or by groups of 50. We are using the same mail server, the only
thing that has changed is the router (D-Link Etherfast cable/DSL router). I
have my port set to 25. The Outlook account is set to port 465, but I cannot
get a connection established when I change to that port. After sending out the
group of emails, it will spend about 3 minutes per connection and just hangs.
The log file looks like this:

Any ideas on what may be happening?
Thanks!
