Tom,
When everything that the lasso touches is selected, INCLUDING the region,
hold the CTRL key down and single mouse click on the region to UN-select it
or anything else you don't want selected within the lasso (in case you
missed this nuance in Razzaks reply).

That is what I am doing. As soon as the mouse button is released the four
corners of the region light up. Everything then moves in relation to the
region. A simple left align of 5 items moves them to the left margin of
the region not just the usual 1-2 clicks within the lassoed group. V9-64
6/30.

Is there a simple command to use a lasso in a report region

Tom,
Press/Hold [Ctrl] key first, and then start lassoing objects as you
see fit. This will exclude anything you wish, including the report
region itself.
In addition, while pressing [Ctrl] key, using single mouse click
on any object will select/un-select that particular object as well.
Have fun!
