I'm testing that right now, Emmitt.
Running RB 7.6 over VPN takes 10 minutes to bring up customer's menu on a remote workstation.
Will be installing RB on the remote and see how the performance is.
Why? Cuz there's an app on the remote licensed for that machine only and they need data from RB for it.

p.s. Karen - Ultra VNC has some adorable little blinking "lights" on the support window toolbar  :)

There’s a huge difference in using a VPN to create a remote connection such as via RDP, Dameware, VNC, etc. so as to execute R:BASE on a desktop inside the location where the database is located, and on the other hand attempting to execute R:BASE locally with remote data no matter the connection type.

I’ve never considered the latter to be viable.

Sorry, Gunnar, don't think you can sell me on the advantages of doing remote work on a file-server database (as opposed to client server) with a VPN!   I subcontract for one contractor who outright refuses to allow file-server database work over a VPN; I'm not saying he's right, I'm just sayin' what he's sayin'...   My experience with the VPN that the Wrigley gum people have installed is that it makes me long for an external US Robotics modem with the pretty blinking lights..

That was a blow under the belt!

Upgrade your broadband on both sides and you WILL experience a new speed.

I  Stay tuned with the speed I have for time being!
