Sami:

This won't solve your problem, but our business e-mail is hosted by a third party host (not our ISP), and apparently because it is a Linux based e-mail program (Squirrel Mail), STARTTLS is not allowed, for either sending or receiving e-mail, at least in our case.  Earthlink (sprintmail) does not seem to require STARTTLS, but is optional. When STARTTLS is set for "available", a trust certificate is set up first time. So this seems to be a mail server issue.    Maybe this parameter needs to be added to R:mail for mail servers that require STARTTLS.  Razzak?

I have a client who is attempting to set up Gmail Google Apps for Business protocol for sending R:Mail 9.1 email messages.

The R:Mail command file shows:
PLUGINS RMail v1|HOST_NAME smtp.gmail.com
PLUGINS RMail v1|HOST_PORT 587   (also tried 465)

The error message is:
100 - Cannot send e-mail message. (Must issue a STARTTLS command first.  p33sm2340941ybk.2)

STARTTLS is not an available setting in the RMail list of command.

R:BASE Support has indicated that this cannot be done directly to the Gmail server but has to go through the client’s ISP.  From another program, the client already sends via Gmail with Classic ASP code that includes these command lines:
MailObject.Configuration.Fields.Item (" http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpusessl") = True
MailObject.Configuration.Fields.Item (" http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpserverport") = 465

Using the same user/password as the R:Mail program, his protocol sends but I get this error.

I told him I’d post it to the list to see if anyone had a workaround or other method that could be used with R:Mail to get this to work.

Thanks!
Sami
