Thank you Razzak & Karen – it’s always so easy to overlook to obvious in the 
search for a half-remembered problem.

Now to look for the reason why the messages settings got changed because I 
specifically set them every time R:Base is started.

Alastair,

Technically, "End-of-data encountered" message is produced by the 
FETCH statement when
the end of the cursor has been reached.

If you can post the exact code, or a sample using RRBYW17/RRBYW18, I 
can provide you
with a solution and/or technique without suppressing the MESSAGES and 
ERROR MESSAGES.
