The trailing space was being automatically added in the forms/reports
designers. It was a real pain working in the Forms area when a variable
did not work because of the automatically added trailing space. In my
case, I use stored procedures for anything that is used in more than one
area of the system, and the trailing space was a hassle. Others had the
same problem. I think we are into one of those situations where a
solution for one area fouls up another.

this issue has been raised. Trailing spaces are always dropped from the end of
a variable. I am not sure if an enhancement request has been made for a
function to keep them. But if anyone has a working solution I would love to
implement it here. My workaround was to use an underscore.
