Some time back, I published a message to this site outlining a completely
reliable way to
make sure primary key ids were not duplicated.

If anyone has an archive of that, it may be of interest here.

Concerning large random numbers, you might want to look into my
RANDOM UDF.

That is a perfect example of why she needs to be able to explain WHY she
considers a certain way of doing things "good".  If she can explain it in
laymans terms, so much the better.  But at LEAST in technical terms.
