I would use Adobe Photo Shop, MS Photo Editor or some other image editing
software that you can save the BMP image as a JPG.
I don't use BMP format because of it's file size. If you are scanning the
image then save it in a JPG format.
Using one of these software packages will give you the ability to reduce the
file or image size to fit your application.
I've use these to edit images I using in my applications like company logos
for startup screens, Images (Photos or documents) and signatures for demand
letters.
