There are several type of locks: edit, row, cursor, local and remote. See
"LOCK" in the HTML help for a detailed description. If you do a LIST or
LIST TABLE you will see tables that have some kind of lock highlighted (LIST
TABLE lists the tables in alphabetical order). If you do LIST tablename,
you can see what kind of lock is on the table. The commands that can be
carried out on the table depends on the type of lock on the table. Also,
there is a MONITR program in R:Scope that lets you look at number of
concurrent users in a table and other info re locking.

Subject: Table locking

To all:

I've been told that when a table is highlighted in the
database (when issuing a "list tables" command) that it is
locked. Obviously, this does not allow me to run an
UPDATE command unitl the resources are available.

I beleive this is supposed to be a temporary situation
until the processing that is taking place ends at which
time the table is then updatable.

I seem to have a table that spends a lot of time
highlighed. Is there a way to find out who is locking it
and what process is causing it?
