Tango - Notes

I am having problems inserting notes from a [textarea] on my tango form into 
a note field in the database.  It inserts the note, but it replaces the 
first few characters of the note with some garbage "Xq!...".  I have Tango 
2000,  Oterro 2.00.001, IIS 5.

Any suggestions?
