Title: Could use some help
Hi Herb-

This may be somewhat of a clumsy routine, but it works.
I have a table named save, have one column (integer) named save.  Save is a 6 digit number.  Each time the data base is automatically saved, it increases the number by 1, making it easy to see every backup.

My actual database is called LS, and R-Base 2000 resides the in "R" directory on drive C:

The routine makes a directory called "the 6 digit number above" within the "backup" directory on drive D:.  If backup does not exist, it makes it.

It then goes on to do the same thing on my zip drive with designation E:

It goes on the check the integrity of the data base via the reload command, and automatically packs it.

The routine works very well.

SET VAR SAVE INTEGER = SAVE IN SAVE WHERE COUNT = LAST
SET VAR SAVE = (.SAVE + 1)
UPDATE SAVE SET SAVE = .SAVE WHERE COUNT = LAST
SET VAR SAVE TEXT
 DISCONNECT LS
SET MESSAGES ON
SET ERROR MESSAGES ON

D:
MD BACKUP
CD \BACKUP
MD .SAVE
SET VAR B TEXT = (|D:\BACKUP\| + .SAVE)
CD  .B
COPY C:\R\LS*.*
CLEAR VAR B
C:
RENAME LS.RB? LSSAVE.RB?
CONNECT LSSAVE
RELOAD LS
CONNECT LS
ERASE LSSAVE.RB?

PAUSE 1 USING |Is the Zip Drive Ready?| AT CENTER CENTER DEFAULT
DISCONNECT LS
E:
MD BACKUP
CD \BACKUP
MD .SAVE
SET VAR B TEXT = (|E:\BACKUP\| + .SAVE)
CD  .B
COPY C:\R\LS*.*
CLEAR VAR SAVE B
C:
RENAME LS.RB? LSSAVE.RB?
CONNECT LSSAVE
RELOAD LS
CONNECT LS
ERASE LSSAVE.RB?
PAUSE 1 USING |The database has been backed up| AT CENTER CENTER DEFAULT
PACK LS
PAUSE 1 USING |The database has been PACKED| AT CENTER CENTER DEFAULT
SET MESSAGES OFF
SET ERROR MESSAGES OFF
DISCONNECT .LSDB

Subject: Could use some help

Hi Everyone,

Im new to Rbase 2000 ver 6.5++ and Im not a Professional having said that I sure could use some expert help. So far I have done pretty well with the whole thing and Im to the point where I want to back up. I had no problems in backing up, at the R> prompt, but I dont know where it went to and what the File name and extension would be?

I want to backup the whole Data base to a other drive (Zip Drive) but I dont seem to get the proper syntax going.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Herb
