Brent-
Under Win 9x, you usually need to just capture the printer port, then don't
bother using the "net use" command. Under NT/2000, you need to set the
printer up under Windows first (under NT, set up an LPR printer - under
Win2K, set up a local printer then create a new printer port using the IP of
the Jet Direct card), then share the printer. When you run the Batch file
to start R:Base, use the command "net use LPT1: /delete" followed by "net
use LPT1: \\<LocalHost>\<ShareName> /persistent:yes". This drops any
existing connection, then establishes a persistent connection to the printer
(we have found that creating a persistent connection is more reliable).
Make sure to use the colon after LPT1.

If you need instructions for setting up an LPR printer under NT 4.0, check
out http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBB/tip0500/rh0599.htm.

I try to avoid using the JetAdmin software whenever possible (especially
under NT/2000).

Subject: Jetdirect

I have a 4.5++ app that is running on a network. The network printer is
connected to the network via an hp jetdirect.

I normally use, for network printing of DOS jobs....

NET USE LPT1 \\servername\printername and then COPY FILENAME LPT1

or COPY FILENAME \\servername\printername

But, I can't get the jetdirect to print.

The jetdirect does have a host name and an IP address.

Anyone have any experience with any of this? Is this a job for LMHOSTS?
or?

Thanks for any feedback,

Brent Skean
