Thinking it may be an 8 character max problem, I have also tried 011212mm.doc - same results   Any ideas - workarounds please ? It's more likely to be the fact that the My Documents folder contains a space in the name.  Make sure that you commands resolve to something that contains quotes around the path/name with spaces:   COPY MyNewFile 'F:\My Documents\MailMerge'   for instance. -- Larry
