Folks

I know this is a hardy annual but thought this may be of interest.

This code gives quite crazy results:

-- Form Contact_details has 3 datetime fields, two have a cx of > 156,
-- the remaining a cx of 130 Font is Aerial Regular 8 pitch
   EDIT USING Contact_details WHERE Company_Cont_key =13314
--datetime fields appears OK in the above form in all fields
   PRINT faxquote WHERE Quote_reference = 303894
--datetime fields appear OK in the above report
   EDIT USING Contact_details WHERE Company_Cont_key =13314
--datetime now appears as twinkles in the field with a cx of < 156
   --NB
   -- DATE format DD/MM/YYYY
   -- DATE sequence DDMMYYYY
-- Century threshold YEAR is 0
   -- Default CENTURY is 20
   -- TIME format HH:MM:SS
   -- TIME sequence HHMMSS
-- Is as set and does not change.
-- The only way to view datetime fields in any form with a field
--cx of < 156 is to restart R:Base
   RETURN

My first thoughts were that the date and time setting were screwed by a
corrupt report but not so, any report gives the same result!. What appears
to happen is that the report writer somehow upsets the apple
cart. Datetime fields with a cx >130 and <156 display fine until the
report writer is run. This is true of any form or report.

To be safe my guess is that a datetime field on a form needs enough space
to display the fixedsys 9 pitch font which in the form designer pre viewer
needs a minimum width of cx = 156, anything less then you are on
trouble. I have tried several 8 pitch fonts and always get the same results.

In conclusion datetime fields need a lot of fresh air around them. The
form designer pre viewer indicates a minimum width of cy = 103 for 8 pitch
aerial but in reality the minimum is 156.

Confused, so am I!!!!!1

Regards

Ian
