Either you can attempt a DSN-less connection (I think Mike Byerly has an example of how to do this) or make the ODBC entry. ODBC entries are simply registry entries, so you ought to be able to automate this process through VB scripting or an R:Base DLL to do the work for you so no "manual" configuration would be required at each workstation. The ODBC entry stores only the name of the datasource, the name of the driver to use to access it, and (in the case of R:Base connections) the name and location of the RB1 file.
