How do the users define a database easily? Do they have to do it through Oterro? Is there an RDBMS included in Star Office that is capable of defining a DB?
Yes, there is an interface in there where
you can define a database.  The interface
is cryptic at best and they really didn't do
R:BASE much justice.

It looked to me like R:BASE was to be the
main database of Star Office but that seems
to have changed with version 6.  This is most
unfortunate since this would have been a great
way to get R:BASE out there in front of the
masses.

Subject: Starbase or R:BASE?
I recently loaded up a copy of Sun Microsystems
Star Office 5.2.  This product will read and write
Excel and Word documents.  Definitely worth
looking into this product.

The price?  It's FREE.

Now comes the best part...  It's got a database
with it -- a heck of a good database.  Razzak made
a great move by getting R:BASE into that product.
It's a stroke of genius!  Microsoft made Access a
common name in the database world simply by
giving it away.

If you download a copy of Star Office 5.2 from
Sun Microsystems web site, you can look in the
Directory of C:\StarOffice52\program, you will
find:

OT10_32  DLL     1,232,896  05-08-00  5:20a ot10_32.dll
OT101    MSG         6,462  05-08-00  5:20a ot101.msg
OT102    MSG        56,320  05-08-00  5:20a ot102.msg
OT103    MSG        43,520  05-08-00  5:20a ot103.msg
OTERRO   CFG            24  01-30-02  8:17p OTERRO.CFG
OTERRO   CFJ         7,112  01-30-02  6:48p oterro.cfj
OT10INS  DLL        45,056  05-08-00  5:20a ot10ins.dll

This is not the most recent version of Oterro but
it's still a great way to share one of the database
world's best kept secrets with a broad spectrum
of people who are seeking an alternative to the
tyranny of Microsoft.

Great move Razzak and I hope this brings a lot of
new people to R:BASE.
