Subject: Re: Off topic, win 98
stuff
Hi Mikes, I have a weird situation that started a few days
ago. I do the three finger salute to see what is running pretty often.
Although, I am not quite sure what the heck they all are I can recognize
new stuff running. I am now finding a program that list as "robot" when I
do the three finger salute. It appears nowhere in the registry,
system.ini, or win.ini. Norton AntiVirus and Lavasoft spyware sees
nothing wrong but I know this is new and the name sound terribly suspicious.
Following M.Young suggestion it does not seem to appear in the startup
program list and I am very concerned that this is some new stuff not yet
identified. Has anyone seen a program call "robot" win98 when they
do a three finger salute? Does anyone knows what this might
be? TIA, Manuel de Aguiar

Go to Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information. Once that opens then select Tools, then System Configuration Utility. The Startup tab has most of the stuff you will see on the Task list. From the name of the directories you can figure out what some of it does. Try unchecking some of it and see what does not work when you reboot. You can always recheck it. It is a trial and error process. I think you will find that very little of it is critical to running your machine. AntiVirus stuff usually has 2 or 3 programs running. Also check out the Win.Ini tab. The very first folder, Windows, can set some programs to run also.

Does anybody know all about the programs that are running in the

I
see these same files running on different computers, so I presume it is
related
to the OS, but I don't know what is safe to turn off!
