On the Novell side of the equation check the client that you are using. The
4.7 client for Win 2000/NT has opportunistic file locking turned on by
default, and does not allow the user to change the setting. This setting is
supposed to enhance network access speed, but when dealing with databases in
general it causes great pain. You can either down grade to the NetWare
client 4.6 or upgrade to the current version 4.81 any version except 4.7
seems to work fine. Good Luck!

Upgrade the Novel client on the offending workstation(s), there was a
problem with a version of the Novel client that would exhibit these results.

This is a problem with W2K servers. We have not yet tested with Patch 2,
but up to Patch 1 there is a serious performance hit by simply having a
second user connect to a database. This user need not be doing anything. It
doesn't matter whether it is RBDOS or RBWin.
