I guess I've always been confused why people get so complicated
setting their 'scratch' directories. At the risk of being ridiculed,
what is wrong with simply doing:
SET SCRATCH OFF
-- directory may already be there
MD c:\temp
SET SCRATCH c:\temp
ERASE c:\temp\*.$$$
So what if it gives an error message if c:\temp is already there?
Should I care which directory it goes to? Is any functionality lost
using c:\temp instead of whatever is in: (ENVVAL('TEMP'))?
I use the above simple code at clients all the time and haven't
really noticed any problems.
