I was having a similar problem - needed to manually insert records into a 
table with 15-20 columns but only 3 needed to be populated.  Did an EDIT 
ALL FROM ... [F2] to insert record, filled in the required values, 
[CTRL][ENTER] to move to the next record first column.  Records weren't 
there after closing the window.  I discovered that if I used just about any 
other method of moving off the row other than [CTRL][ENTER] the records 
would not vanish.
