I use the HP Scanjet 7670A with the document feeder. The HP software that comes with it allows you to set the default settings (file type, resolution, file name...) and the settings stay as long as no one changes them. I haven't bought a scanner for at least a year.
I think I default the file to save to temp.jpg. If you scan multiple pages, it will name the files temp.jpg, temp2.jpg, temp3.jpg.... I then go into R:base, load temp.jpg into the DB, delete it and look for temp2.jpg, load, delete... until I run out of files You really want to pay attention to the resolution because it will effect your file size. We use 200 dpi. You don't do anything but waist space if you just have a non photograph document to scan any higher than 300 dpi.
