Thank you to all who responded!
I found two ways of achieving my desired results.
1) Use the PAUSE 3 and PAUSE 4 statements according
to earlier messages.
2) If you display a STATUS bar in your form you can use
the WRITE 'text message' AT BAR YELLOW ON BLACK
This function also worked very well and does not leave any
pop up windows open to close after the processing. (A very
small draw back to the PAUSE statement is it appears that
you have to close the message box manually when finished.)
It also allows from some color options that can is nice.
Depending on the project and app, I can see myself using both
the above. Thanks again to all that responded!

It works VERY well as long as the length of the first message is the BIGGER
than any that follow.
I've done this outside of a form and it looks good. Probably slows the thing
down a bit but at least you know it's doing something.
Should be possible in an EEP to bung a pause box on top of the form...
while ...
do stuff ...
set var vMessage text = ('your message' & .vYourVar)
pause 3 using .vMessage
endwhile
Regards, Alastair.
