I believe that this should be the correct result if you are not on a
network. I will continue trying to figure out why it is happening on my
computer. I might try reloading Windows 98SE and see if it does anything; I
am hesitant to do this as I have so much software installed that it would
take a while to restore all software.
In any case, thank you so much for your help.

OK, Javier, now newstuff works but duplicating your set var xxx =
(CVAL('userdomain')) shows that the variable is set to !ERROR. It
doesn't crash the system, however. ~Claudine :)

Razzak:
As I posted before, I also get Rbase to reproducibly crash by running at
the
R> prompt:

SET VAR xxx = (CVAL('UserDomain'))

I am running Windows 98SE, 6.5++ build 1.855xRT03, I installed the
latest
Beta patch 1.858xRT03 with similar results.
However, it will run correctly under Windows 98, build 1.850xRT03 on a
laptop; both computers are networked together using Microsoft Windows
LAN.
The previous post shows the complete error message. If the laptop can
see
the networked, the desktop surely should too; even if the computer was
not
connected to a network, I would expect it to return an error but not
necessarily crash the system.

Javier,

No problem here ...

I have tested the same scenario on my Win2K Sony Vaio Notebook
connected to LAN and a Win 98 SE (at client site) running the latest
and greatest and Glorious R:BASE 2000 (ver 6.5++) for Windows,
Build:1.858xRT03.

01. What OS are you using?

02. What Version and Build of R:BASE? (Date/Time)

03. You MUST be connected to a LAN to get (CVAL( 'UserDomain' ))
     or Win2K Server/Workstation.

Enjoy and make sure to have fun!

Very Best Regards,

Razzak.
