I want to capture data to a text file that is coming in from my phone
system to my computer via com1. These records are fixed length so it would
be easy to load a it to a table nightly.

The question is... what would be the best way to capture this data that is
being sent by the phone system to the com1 port on my computer. It is
working now with Hyperterminal, but I would rather automate it.

1) Can R:Base open a com port and capture a data stream?

2) Is there a dos command line utility that I can invoke to simply capture
to a specific file name.

Any thoughts ??
