For the first day of a month given a date vDate0:

SET VAR vDate0 DATE = '01/13/1905'
SET VAR vDate1 DATE = (.vDate0 + 1 - (IDAY(.vDate0)))
-- and for the last day of the month, move back one day from the first or the next 
mnth.
SET VAR vDate2 = (ADDMON(.vDate1,1) - 1)

SHO VAR vDate%
vDate0 = 01/13/05
vDate1 = 01/01/05
vDate2 = 01/31/05
