Posts: 543 Howdy all:

I'm venturing into new territory here, and I'm really hoping for those who have
already done this to point me in the right direction. Please.

I have a PLC I've been working that does a lot of number crunching. Every hour
or so it produces a single number of interest that I'd like to transport to a
spreadsheet. I contacted the manufacturer (WAGO) and they suggested I
communicate via Modbus—a protocol I'm only vaguely familiar with—using
TCP/IP. I've used Modbus to communicate from the PLC to a panel, but honestly
the protocol was handled automatically.

Now I'm looking to purchase a Modbus DLL driver for a few hundred dollars, but
I'm unsure if I'm buying the Master or Slave driver. I think the Master, but
could someone please clarify this?

Otherwise I'm really unsure, frankly, how to really begin, or if I'm even
starting in the right direction. Does Real Studio have any innate communication
ability with Modbus, or do I need to buy the driver? Is there any "heads-up" I
should be aware of when going this method?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
