Posts: 48 Hi. I just got a call from a customer with a Mac OS X
running version 10.5.8. She said when she tries to open my app, she receives
an error message saying "Cannot open the application. Not supported with this
arcitecture". I checked in the system requirements that RB apps should be
compatible with Mac X 10.4 or later. Does she need to upgrade her Mac? She
said also that the app's icon showed a circle with a line through it.

Location: Canada, Alberta, Near Red Deer 10.5.8 could be running
on a PPC machine.
What version of RB did you use to create the application ?

Using RB 2011 release 4.3 to build

Location: Hamburg, Germany Before Apple switched to use Intel
processors, they used PowerPC (PPC) architechture.

PPC and Intel Macs require different builds.

For Mac OSX you have three possibilities to compile your build (see the build
options in RS) Edit (after npalardy replied) 2011 R4 does only compile for
intel.

1) PPC build (will run on PPC Mac's only)
2) Intel build (will run on Intel Mac's only
3) Universal build (will run on both)

So e.g. if you did an Intel build only and your customer is running Mac OSX
10.5.8 on an older Mac with PPC architechture, the app will not run.

I recommend universal builds although their size is greater.

2011r4 only compiles for Intel processors.( see
<http://docs.realsoftware.com/index.php/Deprecations_in_Real_Studio>)
If this person is using an older PowerPC based machine your app will not run on
it.

That sounds exactly like what you're seeing when the person tries to start the
app.
The executable is for an Intel machine & the PowerPC machine looks at it &
refuses to run as it's for a different processor.
