I have no issues with variables, including lookups to other tables, calculated in the F0 band and displayed there. Is there a chance that your variable in question is being reset on an inner break?
What happens if you calculate the variable in the corresponding report header section?
As for your second report, I have no issues with reports that do not have detail bands. I would note that all of these are pure v7 reports, not conversions.
Am I wrong, or is there a difference in the way a
report "lookup" variable works in a break footer?
In 6.5, if your variable was located in the break
footer and it was a straight lookup (like "vcust =
custname from customers where custid = custid"),
then you defined the report lookup to also be in
the break footer so that it's calculated only once,
rather than at every detail line.
It seems now that the only way I can get this to
work is to have the lookup at the detail level. It
seems to go to null (or 0) if I calculate it at the
footer level.
I had another report where at the detail level in
the variable list I was concatenating a list of
values from a column but was locating the
concatenated list only in the break footer, with
no detail rows on the report. If I add a detail
section just for testing and I locate the variable,
I see it concatenating at each row, but locating
an identical variable in the footer level shows
nothing. What am I doing wrong?
