I'm not at home right now, so I can't look and be absolutely certain, but I think those struts are solid aluminum, right? That tubing cutter is really only for thin walled tubes. You could probably get one cheaper in the plumbing area of any hardware store. If you're going to buy something, I'd really suggest going out and getting yourself a hacksaw. They are really quite handy to have around.
