Hey Darren,
I tend to agree with Patrick here. For pavement and occasional dirt
road riding, schwalbes are overkill for me. They are wonderful tires
and I've grown to appreciate the reflective sidewall. And I'll
continue to use my Marathon XR's for rough stuff touring. But for
general riding I've found I don't really need any added puncture
protection. The last flat I had on my Roly Poly's was well over a
1000 miles ago and that one was a --- underinflated tire + rock +
careless riding = pinch flat episode.
Of course, I don't ride in goathead country like many here do. Nor do
my normal rides involve lots of glass and belted tire remnants
scattered about. If yours do, ignore what I've said and go with the
Marathons. Otherwise, I think you'll be happy with the Col de la
Vie's.
