I'm not surprised by this, actually. Even average-quality modern
cassettes and derailers don't really weigh that much, so the biggest
difference between the bikes - the gearing - won't change the overall
weight that much. It's a much more noticeable difference on an older
singlespeed conversion project, where you might drop 5lb from the bike
from two steel derailers, freewheel and steel chainrings.
