Try the friction, and if it doesn't work, get Shimano 10-speed 
bar-enders. I think the friction's worth a try if you're using bar-end 
shifters. I remember being told that 9 wouldn't work in friction, but 
with bar-ends I was fine.

If you have to sell the Silvers, you could probably do it on this list.
