Just returned from a very long weekend of music and riding. The music was the Bluff Country Gathering in Lanesboro, Minnesota. The riding was courtesy my Sam Hillborne and the Root River Trail system that goes through Lanesboro.
After a bit less than two weeks, now have 350 miles on the Hillborne. Yikes! That's like the most miles I've probably ever ridden in that time period. So yes, I'm happy with the bike. In fact, right now it's my favorite. No offense meant to the Atlantis. But am having a really fun time on the Hillborne. A lot of it is probably due to "new bike smell". But for casual, not loaded for bear, and not too silly riding, it's about perfect for me. I'm actually still very comfortable with the drop bars. And have even used the drops not just for descending, but also for riding into some pretty stiff winds. Another note about handling. Last Wednesday was riding the (paved) trails and was caught in a typical bluff country rain. About one- quarter inch in less than half an hour. Pouring enough my shoes were squishing after 15 minutes. Even with fenders on the bike. During that ride, figured to high-tail it back to the hotel. And the trail, while generally easy, does have a few zigs and zags. The Hillborne handled perfectly. Even with my admittedly less than perfect bike skills. Not once did I wish for Albatross or (whisper) flat bars.
