Any lessons to be shared? You mentioned a "metal edge" in the road:
was that a sewer grate, bridge joint or something? I find that I have
to watch things like a hawk: while on a recent rando ride in NE Iowa,
I was riding down a country road with only a narrow strip of unbroken
pavement right at the edge. I looked down at the cue sheet and the
front tire wandered about four inches to the right into the soft sand
shoulder. Front tire burrowed in and over I went. No damage other
than road rash, but it was a wakeup call for me as a rider.
