Well, it takes training to consistently get a proper bend by hand. Possibly you can do hand bends in ways that machines - or at least the machine the particular factory owns - cannot. We really need Grant or Chris over at Velo-Orange to chime in. I have heard there were problems, but can only speculate on why.
