On the issue of non-Atlantis touring bikes in the Riv stable, the
website lists as a good max weight, rider + gear, 240 for the
Hillborne and 300 for the Atlantis ,w/ 220 for the AHH. That's on the
proverbial fire trail. The Bombadil doesn't have a max weight listed,
but the text reads to me that it's equal or greater to the Atlantis,
and to most single axle trucks.

Obviously these are different bikes and the numbers are going to mean
significantly different things -- depending on your own weight and how
much stuff you like to schlepp around -- but those extra 20 lbs the
Hillborne has on the AHH means (for me, with my own ever-increasing
waistline and slowly shrinking camp kit) that its viable for more than
the overnight outing. And I'd echo what someone mentioned earlier,
those numbers are likely on the conservative side to account for folks
who like to ride through rather than around the divots.

Assuming the Atlantis goes on hiatus (which even that stands now only
as a maybe) the average-size fellow can haul ample kit with the
Hillborne for most trips. And, if you intend to provision an
unsupported outback trip to the Hebrides, get the Bombadil instead.

That being said, I've always internet-envied you Atlantis owners that
opted for the pea-green models. (Sigh.)
