I would think that the look of zip ties on an expensive rack on an expensive bike would be the very worst reason for this method of attachment. I've mounted a Wald Newsboy and one other, slightly smaller Wald using the struts and they were secure, but I expect that they weren't as secure as a Wald attached to a sturdy rack. Note that front baskets with struts don't mount easily with any bar with much forward projection.
