"I don't feel slow on it. I'm not quite ready to go full heavy upright long chainstay crazy big tired out yet."
I plan to post a detailed comparison of my new Jones Plus with the Sam Hillborne I've had since 2012, but I can say briefly that a bike can be long/stout and fast. I have much respect for and lots of happy riding with Grant's designs, but I swear Jeff Jones is a goddamn genius. I was blown away by how fast the plus is on the road with 60mm Super Motos and it was a nimble beast in my first-ever singletrack outing. Haven't done any timed comparisons on my gravel loops, but I would estimate I can easily trim my time by 10%, riding at the same effort on the Jones vs. the Sam, due to I think both the 50% fatter tire and Jeff Jones Geometry Voodoo Magic. I know this is a Rivendell forum, but man, the fun factor on a Jones just from the expanded capability has to be ridden to be believed. 29+ has the makings of "the next big thing" and I think a lot of Rivendell people would be interested in this type of bike.
