I can't say that any dynamo light could possibly be satisfactory, alone, for off-road riding. I will always want a helmet-mounted light so I can look around corners on trails.
I've been doing a lot of off-roading in the dark lately; I have a fat bike and it's dark when I get off work. I've found that if I ride twisty trails with just a headlight on my bike, I will run into obstacles because I'm counter-steering to keep the light on the trail where I want to see instead of pointing the front wheel where it needs to go. High mounted lights, on the handlebar and/or on the helmet, seem to give the best angle on the road ahead without blinding oncoming folks. But even with the massive beam of the Luxos U mounted high on the handlebars, I still found myself tilting it upward (into the blinding zone) so I could see further down the dirt path.
