What tires are you using? I found Berthouds in 559 X 50 mm size. Velo Orange has aluminum fenders in a 559 X 60, IIRC.
And, I've successfully installed SKS and Planet Bike 700C fenders, 35 mm wide, on my 26"-wheeled road frames. I hope to install the Berthouds (again, 50 mm) on the '03, but I'll have to dimple the fenders where they fit between stays and crown.
