I like using a computer, and I’ve used a lot of different kinds. In my opinion, 
the best computer ever made was the Avocet 50, which sadly has been out of 
production for many years. Big numbers, easy to use, with elevation gain. I 
wrote about it here:

I still have one that I’m saving for a future project.

Nowadays, I’ve turned to GPS units. I have used Garmin units since about 2005, 
but switched to a Wahoo Elemnt this year. GPS units don’t need wires, or spoke 
magnets, or calibration. With a few spare mounts you can swap one unit from 
bike to bike in seconds. 

Most GPS units also have the ability to set up the display to show only what 
you need. The Elemnt uses a smartphone app that is particularly easy to use.
