Not long ago I was bedeviled by a noise coming from the back of my Clementine. It sounded just like a tire rubbing on a fender with each rotation. I checked everything I could think of without actually doing anything too much like work, but I could not isolate it. I even ordered the extra long struts from Planet Bike so that I could fix the fenderline (which, I think because of the long stays, was out of whack and there was no more strut to adjust it to the proper position). But even there a thorough flashlight check while the bike was up on the stand made that seem like an unlikely source--just too much clearance everywhere. Finally got serious, took the wheel off the bike, and was giving it a test spin to check for possible tire defects, whatever, when the noise immediately stopped. As soon as I grabbed that rubber boot thing on the outside end of the rear hub--Presto! No more weird rubby sound. WD'd it. Noticed the other day it is making a slight comeback, but with a new tone. Time for another squirt. I even made a video of it and was going to post, but, well, that would be kinda almost too weird. So consider this the PSA. Now, about that fenderline and those extra long struts still in the packaging...
