I am pretty sure bar end shifters are allowed, since they were quite common in the peloton in the '40s and '50s, if not '60s.

It's all a bit precious, though I can rather easily forgive this particular sort of preciousness as it happens to agree with my personal tastes and prejudices. It's *my* kind of preciousness. It is funny to think that my 2 Rivendells fixed gears would, as currently ridden, count as too modern for the rules, with clipless pedals and aero brake levers. Also, I think hub gears, at least 2 and 3 speed hub gears, are allowed -- my only hope, should I (as I have dreamed) enter an Eroica. I think that the S3X counts as a KOF for the AW.
