When I ride my racy road bike (which is becoming more and more infrequent) I ride a pre-determined route and follow it closely. When I ride my Sam Hillborne my experience is more like yours. I follow my nose and ride by the ripening strawberry fields. I turn down roads that I know are dead ends just to have a look anyway. Sometimes I will find a shortcut where kids have blazed a trail to the next neighborhood. I may have a destination in mind but the route will be made up as I go. I haven't been a kid for a long time but I remember it well while riding my Sam. It was nice hearing about your ride today.
