After reading this thread I was curious to try Mark's rack in the back.

Here are some pictures of my trial run (I know this style of 3-point 
mounting is not secure enough).  There's also a picture to show the 
capacity of Wald's medium rack.

I've used the same rack/basket combo in the front for couple of weeks. 
 Except for the small inconvenience of inadvertently kicking the basket 
while getting off the bike, weight in the back seems more stable.  

So why so many people use a rack in the front and none in the back?  Is it 
for the reason the cargo is always in sight? (i.e., you don't need to 
wonder if anything is about to fall off)
